While you should call us immediately, here are some general guidelines for
specific eye injuries. Always prioritize calling our office first for personalized
advice.
- For Foreign Bodies: Do NOT rub your eye. Try blinking
repeatedly or flushing with clean water. If the object remains, do not attempt to remove it
yourself.
- For Chemical Burns: IMMEDIATELY flush the eye with
plenty of clean water for at least 15-20 minutes. Do not rub your eye.
- For Blunt Trauma: Apply a cold compress gently to
reduce swelling, but avoid pressure on the eye.
- General Advice: Do NOT attempt to remove an embedded
object. Do NOT apply pressure to the eye. Avoid rubbing or touching the injured eye.
